GST Calculator Online: Calculate GST Inclusive & Exclusive with CGST, SGST, IGST Breakup
A GST calculator adds GST to a base price or removes it from a price that already includes tax. To add GST, multiply the price by the rate; to remove it, divide the inclusive price by 1 plus the rate. Within one state the tax splits equally into CGST and SGST; between states it is IGST.
Why people search for a GST calculator
Say you design a logo for a client in your own state and quote ₹10,000 plus 18% GST. The invoice comes to ₹11,800. Then the client says, "My budget is ₹10,000, all in." Now the tax is not ₹1,800. It is ₹1,525.42, and your fee drops to ₹8,474.58. Same job, same rate, ₹1,525.42 less for you. That gap is why people search for a GST calculator, and the tool above works in both directions. Enter your amount, pick a mode and read the breakup.

What Is a GST Calculator?
A GST calculator is an online tool that works out the GST on a price and splits it into CGST and SGST, or IGST. You enter an amount, say whether tax is already in it, choose a rate and say whether the sale is within one state. It returns the taxable value, the tax and the invoice total.
-
What it does - it does the arithmetic. Use it for quotes, invoices, checking an MRP or testing a vendor's bill.
-
What it doesn't do - it does not decide your rate or whether you need to register. You supply the rate, so check the rate finder below first.
How to Use the GST Calculator
Enter the amount, choose Add GST or Remove GST, pick the rate, choose same state or different states, and read the five results.
1
Enter the Amount
Type the price as it appears on your quote or label. If you are unsure whether it includes GST, look for a line called "taxable value": it means tax is not in the number yet. The MRP printed on packaged goods already includes all taxes.
2
Choose GST Inclusive or Exclusive
Choose Add GST (exclusive) if the price is before tax, as in most B2B quotes and service fees. Choose Remove GST (inclusive) if tax is already inside, as with an MRP, a shop bill or an "all-inclusive" quote.
3
Select the GST Rate Slab
Pick the rate for your product or service. As of October 2026, the main rates are 5%, 18% and 40%, with 0%, 3% and 0.25% for special cases. If you don't know the rate, use the finder below and confirm the HSN or SAC code.
4
Choose Intra-State or Inter-State Supply
Choose "same state" if the supplier's state and the place of supply are the same. Choose "different states" if they differ. For goods, the place of supply is generally where delivery ends.
5
View GST Amount and Tax Breakup
You get Taxable Value, GST Amount, CGST, SGST (or UTGST) or IGST, and the Total Invoice Value. Copy them into your invoice or quote.
GST Rate Slabs in India
As of 17 October 2026, India's main GST rates are 5%, 18% and 40%, plus 0% for nil-rated items and special rates of 3% and 0.25%. The 12% and 28% slabs were removed from 22 September 2025, following the 56th GST Council meeting on 3 September 2025 and CBIC's rate notifications of 17 September 2025.
| Slab | Status as of October 2026 | In the calculator |
| 0% | Nil-rated or exempt items | Available |
| 0.25% | Rough diamonds and certain unprocessed precious stones | Available |
| 3% | Gold, silver, platinum | Available |
| 5% | Main lower (merit) rate | Available |
| 12% | Removed from 22 Sept 2025 | Older invoices only |
| 18% | Standard rate | Available |
| 28% | Removed from 22 Sept 2025 | Older invoices only |
| 40% | New top rate for luxury and "sin" goods | Available |
The rate that applies depends on the time of supply. A supply made before 22 September 2025 carries the old rate, even if you are preparing the paperwork now.
0% GST Rate
Applies to nil-rated and exempt items, such as fresh milk and certain life-saving medicines. It is not the same as being outside GST: petrol, diesel and alcohol for human consumption sit outside GST altogether. If your item is nil-rated, the calculator shows GST of ₹0 and the total equals the base.
0.25% and 3% GST Rate
Gold, silver and platinum carry 3%, and rough diamonds and some unprocessed precious stones carry 0.25%. On ₹1,00,000 of gold at 3%, GST is ₹3,000 (₹1,500 CGST + ₹1,500 SGST within a state).
5% GST Rate
The lower rate for everyday goods and some services. Butter, ghee, cheese and packaged snacks moved here from 12% on 22 September 2025. On ₹1,000, GST at 5% is ₹50.
12% GST Rate (older invoices)
No longer exists for most goods and services. From 22 September 2025, most items at 12% moved to 5%, and a few moved to 18%. Use 12% only for supplies made before that date. On ₹10,000, 12% GST is ₹1,200.
18% GST Rate
Now the standard rate. Covers most services, including IT, legal, accounting and consulting, and goods such as televisions, air conditioners and cement. Most items that were at 28% moved here. On ₹10,000, GST at 18% is ₹1,800.
28% GST Rate (older invoices)
Also no longer exists for most items. About 90% of its items moved to 18%, and luxury and "sin" goods moved to 40%. Use 28% only for supplies made before 22 September 2025. On ₹5,000, 28% GST was ₹1,400.
40% GST Rate (New Top Slab)
Applies to pan masala, tobacco products, aerated and caffeinated drinks, and larger luxury cars and motorcycles above 350 cc. On ₹10,000, GST at 40% is ₹4,000. Compensation cess was folded into this structure for most goods, but check whether any cess still applies to your product.
CGST, SGST and IGST: Which One Applies?
Within one state you charge CGST plus SGST, each half of the rate. Between states you charge IGST, the full rate. The deciding fact is the supplier's location and the place of supply, as set in Sections 10 and 12 of the IGST Act, 2017.
A simple decision rule
1
Find the supplier's state
From the GSTIN or business address.
2
Find the place of supply
For goods that move, it is usually where delivery ends, not the buyer's billing address. For services to a registered business, it is generally the recipient's location.
3
Compare the two
If both are the same state, charge CGST + SGST. If they differ, charge IGST. Imports, exports and supplies to SEZs are IGST.
Intra-State Supply: CGST + SGST
In the same state, half the rate goes to the Centre as CGST and half to the state as SGST. In Union Territories without a legislature (Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, Ladakh), the state half is UTGST. Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry charge SGST.
Inter-State Supply: IGST
When the supply crosses a state border, the full rate is IGST. A ₹10,000 sale at 18% carries IGST of ₹1,800. The total is the same as in an intra-state sale. Only the tax heads change.
| Rate | CGST | SGST / UTGST |
| 0.25% | 0.125% | 0.125% |
| 3% | 1.5% | 1.5% |
| 5% | 2.5% | 2.5% |
| 18% | 9% | 9% |
| 40% | 20% | 20% |
GST Calculator Examples
These use round numbers. The tax amount is the same in each case, whether it is split or not.
| Base price | Rate | GST | CGST + SGST (or IGST) | Total |
| ₹10,000 | 0.25% | ₹25 | ₹12.50 + ₹12.50 | ₹10,025 |
| ₹10,000 | 3% | ₹300 | ₹150 + ₹150 | ₹10,300 |
| ₹10,000 | 5% | ₹500 | ₹250 + ₹250 | ₹10,500 |
| ₹10,000 | 12% (older invoices) | ₹1,200 | ₹600 + ₹600 | ₹11,200 |
| ₹10,000 | 18% | ₹1,800 | ₹900 + ₹900 | ₹11,800 |
| ₹10,000 | 28% (older invoices) | ₹2,800 | ₹1,400 + ₹1,400 | ₹12,800 |
| ₹10,000 | 40% | ₹4,000 | ₹2,000 + ₹2,000 | ₹14,000 |
Example 1: Adding 18% GST to ₹10,000
GST = ₹10,000 × 18% = ₹1,800. Within one state, that is ₹900 CGST and ₹900 SGST. The invoice total is ₹11,800.
Example 2: Removing 18% GST from ₹11,800
Base = ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000. GST = ₹11,800 − ₹10,000 = ₹1,800, which is ₹900 CGST and ₹900 SGST.
Example 3: 5% GST on ₹1,000 (Intra-State)
GST = ₹50, split as ₹25 CGST and ₹25 SGST. The total is ₹1,050.
Example 4: 28% GST on ₹5,000 (Inter-State)
For a supply made before 22 September 2025, GST at 28% is ₹1,400, all IGST, and the total is ₹6,400. For a supply of the same item today at 18%, IGST is ₹900 and the total is ₹5,900. If the item now falls under 40%, IGST is ₹2,000 and the total is ₹7,000.
GST Rate Finder: Which Slab Applies to Your Product?
The rate depends on the HSN code (goods) or SAC code (services), not on the item's name. Use this table as a starting point, then confirm on the CBIC GST rates page. Rates are as of October 2026.
| Product or service | Rate now |
| Fresh milk, certain life-saving medicines | 0% |
| Butter, ghee, cheese, packaged snacks | 5% |
| Hair oil, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet soap | 5% (earlier 18%) |
| Apparel and footwear up to ₹2,500 per piece | 5% |
| Apparel and footwear above ₹2,500 per piece | 18% |
| Hotel room up to ₹7,500 per night | 5% |
| IT, legal, accounting, consulting services | 18% |
| Televisions, air conditioners, dishwashers | 18% (earlier 28%) |
| Cement | 18% (earlier 28%) |
| Small cars and motorcycles up to 350 cc | 18% (earlier 28%) |
| Pan masala, tobacco, aerated drinks | 40% |
| Luxury cars, motorcycles above 350 cc | 40% |
| Gold, silver, platinum | 3% |
| Rough diamonds | 0.25% |
If your item is not on this list, search its HSN or SAC code on the GST portal rate finder before you invoice.
How Does It Compare?
GST Inclusive vs Exclusive Pricing
A GST-exclusive price is before tax, and you add GST on top. A GST-inclusive price already contains tax, and you remove it to find the base.
| Factor | GST exclusive | GST inclusive |
| Price means | Base price | Final price including tax |
| Typical use | B2B quotes, professional fees | MRP, retail bills, "all-inclusive" quotes |
| ₹10,000 at 18% | Tax ₹1,800, total ₹11,800 | Base ₹8,474.58, tax ₹1,525.42 |
When you quote a client, say "plus GST" or "inclusive of GST" in writing. That one phrase decides who absorbs the tax.
GST Calculator vs GSTIN Verification
| Factor | GST Calculator | GSTIN Verification |
| Answers | How much tax is on this amount? | Is this GST number valid, and who holds it? |
| Input | Amount, rate, supply type | 15-character GSTIN |
They answer different questions, and you often need both.
Rounding Off GST in Invoices
Tax payable under GST is rounded to the nearest rupee. Section 170 of the CGST Act, 2017 says a part of a rupee of 50 paise or more is raised to one rupee, and less than 50 paise is ignored. Invoices can show paise, but the amounts you pay or claim are in whole rupees.
Round each tax head separately
Take a ₹11,800 inclusive price at 18% with a base of ₹10,000: no issue. Take a ₹10,000 inclusive price: base ₹8,474.58, CGST ₹762.71, SGST ₹762.71. Rounded separately, each becomes ₹763, total ₹1,526. Rounding the combined ₹1,525.42 gives ₹1,525. The one-rupee difference is normal, so set your accounting software to round the same way every time.
Who Should Use a GST Calculator?
Anyone who quotes, buys or bills in India can use it. Each group needs it for a slightly different job.
Retailers and Small Businesses - use Remove GST to work out the base price from an MRP, and Add GST to price goods for B2B customers. Check whether a composition scheme applies to your turnover before you charge GST on invoices.
Freelancers and Service Providers - use Add GST on fees and Remove GST when a client gives you an all-inclusive budget, as in the logo example above. If you have crossed the registration threshold, see our GST registration page.
E-commerce Sellers - marketplace sellers often need the tax split by destination state, which decides CGST+SGST or IGST. Our GST for e-commerce page covers the compliance side.
Accountants and Tax Professionals - check invoices and reconcile vendor bills before claiming input tax credit. For returns, see GST return filing.
Consumers Checking MRP Breakup - enter the MRP, choose Remove GST and see how much of the price is tax. It is a quick way to see what a rate cut should save you.
Reading a GSTIN: Why It Matters for the Tax Split
A GSTIN has 15 characters. The state code tells you where the supplier is registered, which helps you decide between CGST+SGST and IGST.
Characters 1 and 2
State code (for example 07 Delhi, 08 Rajasthan, 27 Maharashtra)
Characters 3 to 12
The holder's PAN
Character 13
Number of registrations of that PAN in the state
Character 14
The letter Z by default
Character 15
A check character
To check a number, use our GSTIN verification tool. To find a GSTIN from a PAN, use PAN to GST, or search by business name with name to GST search.
